Myspace and Facebook: Unknown Dangers

Myspace and Facebook are popular websites that connect you to the social network around you. Though they are very addicting to have, we must learn that they come with dangers. The dangers are enough to explain that we shouldn’t be going on the site. But there are many things that we, parents and kids, can do to make these sites less of a threat, for the benefit of all.

The first step in making your account on Facebook/Myspace a safer place is to not accept people you know. There are 29,000 registered sex offenders on Myspace and Facebook. If one of them were to be your friend (on Myspace/Facebook not in real life), what do you think might happen to you? Not only could you let them view your site, but your friends’ sites as well; then all of them may be jeopardized by your actions. Certainly, this is not anything very good, I can say.

The second step is to, obviously, is to not put your name and address on your account. Give some fake address that has no relevance to where you really live. If you did happen to do this, anyone who had access to your site, could have access to your house, your belongings, and even your family. This is one of the worst things you can do. This not only puts you in danger, but your friends and family in danger as well.

The third step is to make sure that you restrict your account to anyone but you’re real, real, friends. The main thing about Myspace and Facebook is a social utility to connect you to the friends around you, not a social utility to connect you to every person on the site and possibly get kidnapped. Restricting is a handy tool, for that you can minimize the people that see your site to anyone, your friends, or even just one person. By restricting your website, only your friends can see, talk, and hear from you. This makes your account a whole ton more secure.

The fourth step is to recognize when people are acting strange. When I say strange, I mean asking for your number, asking where you live, asking if you are a boy or a girl, and what not. When people do this, it is a bit obvious that they don’t just want to know you. If this does happen, immediatly end the conversation. Then, don’t let the person every see you again. Make yourself invisible to the person be restricting her of her. This way, there is one less person who can cause you a problem on the site.

The fifth step is to not go into groups that you don’t know. Only go into groups that your friends invite you to. If someone you don’t know asks you to go into a group that you don’t know, simply ignore the message. Being in a group means that you are not only vulnerable to one person, but now, many people. This is an easy thing to do; just look, and deny.

The sixth step is to not go into the house of anyone whom you met on Facebook/Myspace. This is obviously, a very stupid thing to do. It is like asking a stranger on the street if you could go to their house. It is completely barbaric. This is the cause that led to the statistic of that there are 600,000 registered sex offenders on the website. Every one in 20 has a Myspace profile. That means that there is a .05 percent chance of getting kidnapped by one of those sex offenders. I may sound small, but it is a very big number we are talking about.

The seventh step is to not say where you are going on the weekend. That is a just a bit less stupid that saying where you live. When you give the name of where you are going to go in the weekend, you are giving access to 20,000 sex offenders who could possibly come there and take you, remove you from existence, and never bring you back.

The eighth step is to not visit anyone’s site you do not know. That is like asking a stranger to go to dinner with you. It is definitely not a very smart thing to do. The person who owns that site might manipulate you to do whatever he wants you to do.

The final step is to tell your parents in anything goes wrong. Your parents should be the first ones to know about anything and everything. They deserve to know if you do anything out of the ordinary.

In conclusion, I can say that I might make it look like Myspace and Facebook are not very harmful places if you do the right thing, but in reality, they are. I believe that Myspace and Facebook are some of the major causes of sexual abuse.

Letter to Nancy Pelosi

July 26, 2007

Representative Nancy Pelosi
450 Golden Gate Avenue, 14th FloorSan Francisco, CA 94102-3460

Dear Representative Nancy Pelosi,

I am here to bring to your attention a matter with utmost importance. The Iraq war has been going on for too long, and we need it to stop. I believe that one of the only ways to do this is to stop President Bush. He has too much power and needs to be stopped. If we [the people] cannot stop him, maybe you can. I believe that you can make a difference.

Terrorism and Bush have made great friends. But, maybe he was right. Maybe there are Weapons of Mass Destruction but were not finding them. If there were WMD’s, then we wouldn’t be the greatest superpower on this planet, I don’t know if we’re the greatest superpower right now! We are in billions on dollars in debt and people are dying in Iraq everyday. If this was the greatest superpower, I can’t even imagine how the other countries must be like.

I do not understand why Bush has thought more about Iraq than about American citizens. Does he not know that the debt of the U.S is $8,903,401,293,023.36 and counting? Can you imagine, how much money we could save in the war was stopped? I cannot believe that even things like this quote can stop Bush- Quoting from the Democratic Party’s website: “Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill, which provides funding for the troops along with a strategy for getting them out of a bloody civil war…vetoed the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill… President Bush has failed the country...” (http://www.democrats.org/a/2007/05/bush_chooses_to_1.php)

Consequently, many people think that Bush’s power is comparable to that of Hitler in the massacre of the Jews. Even Congressman Keith Ellison said in his human rights speech, "It's almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that. After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and it put the leader of that country [Hitler] in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted. The fact is that I'm not saying [Sept. 11] was a [U.S.] plan, or anything like that because, you know, that's how they put you in the nut-ball box -- dismiss you." It’s surprising that even a congressman can say that Bush has more power than he should. Even on News Radio 950, they say that the food prices are going to go up, due to inflation. The value of the dollar is going down because of all the money Bush is spending in Iraq. Because of him, we all have to pay more money for food.

In conclusion, I believe that terrorism and Bush could possibly be one of the worst things together in modern history. He has too much power, and someone needs to control it. I am not saying all of this for your benefit or my benefit. I want the citizen’s benefit- the people of the United States are the ones who are suffering most from the war. So I am asking you, please consider giving a speech or writing a letter and taking some sort action against Bush. You are probably the only person who can. The faster Bush gets impeached, the slower we will lose money. By any means necessary, these extremists need to be stopped; the terrorists, and Bush. I would like to thank you for your time.

Terrorism And Bush

Roots of Apocalypse

Terrorism is what started the Iraq War. Who says it won’t start another one? As they say, history repeats itself. On September 11, 2001, one of the darkest days in history, four planes got hijacked; American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77 and United Airlines Flight 93. Of these four planes, two crashed into the World Trade Center, and one went into the Pentagon. One was scheduled to go into the White House, but the brave passengers on board took over the place at the last minute and diverted mad it crash somewhere over Pennsylvania.

Startlingly, you think to yourself, who knows what would happen it the same thing happened again? The United States needs to find a counter to Terrorism. My Social Studies teacher said, “Well Bush is doing a good job because nothing happened in the U.S since 9/11” But then again, they could be planning another hijacking or suicide bombing or whatever is in their mind at that moment. Al Qaeda is still alive; it is weaker, but still in affect. This means that, without doubt, they have a chance at getting back. “Still, the conditions that led to Al Qaeda's success - everything from poverty to religious fundamentalism to easy access to global travel - remain.” (http://www.csmonitor.com/2001/1218/p1s1-usmi.html)

But, maybe President Bush was right. Maybe there are WMD’s but were not finding them. If there were WMD’s then we would be the greatest superpower on this planet, I don’t know if we’re the greatest superpower right now! We are in billions on dollars in debt and people are dying in Iraq everyday. If this was the greatest superpower, I can’t even imagine how the other countries must be like.

Furthermore, this might all be Bush’s fault to start off with. So, is Bush going to get impeached? The Democrats definitely don’t want Bush, or at least want him to change. This quote comes from the Democratic Party’s website: “Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill, which provides funding for the troops along with a strategy for getting them out of a bloody civil war…vetoed the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill… President Bush has failed the country...” (http://www.democrats.org/a/2007/05/bush_chooses_to_1.php) The Democrats obviously don’t want Bush, or at least want him to change. But the question is, do the Senators believe the same. If so, Bush may be in a lot of trouble.

Consequently, some people even think that Bush’s power is comparable to that of Hitler in the massacre of the Jews. Congressman Keith Ellison said in his human rights speech, "It's almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that.

Nevertheless, Bush is doing the wrong thing. Terrorism has, in fact been bigger than ever after the Iraq War. The Terrorist don’t go for the big though; they are going for the small, and through the small, are making a devastating and ruthless outcome. By any means necessary, these extremists need to be stopped; the terrorists, and Bush.
